Sacred Dunes

This past week, I spent some time up in Michigan City, Indiana making some memories with my family 😊. We explored lots of different crevices of this beautiful area (more on that in a blog post to come) but one of my favorite things was my visit to Sacred Dunes.

Sacred Dunes can be found tucked away in one of the historical homes in Michigan City (right near Shoreline Brewery for those of you who are familiar with the area). It was here that I had the pleasure of experiencing with first acupuncture treatment! My mom and grandma came along with me so that we could all learn a little more about what it is that acupuncture entails.

We had no idea what a treat we were in for!

Stephanie Gordon, owner of Sacred Dunes, sat down with us before we even began to give us a brief history on what exactly acupuncture is and how it's beneficial to her clients. I'll be honest, before I walked in, I knew very little about it. Stephanie shared with us that a (licensed) acupuncturist can actually evaluate your blood work - vitamin, mineral deficiencies, things of that nature.

Acupuncture is a Chinese medicine that is thousands of years old. The details of this is very in depth - not something that should be learned over a quick weekend. She actually went through 1,500 hours of training before she even sat for her boards to become a licensed acupuncturist. There are almost 400 physical points 😱 that an acupuncturist is choosing from during your reading.

There was a thorough evaluation that I went through with Stephanie before she decided what she was going to treat (out of those 400 physical points on my body). From my evaluation, she honed in on two major pieces - anxiety and depression. (You can see her feeling my pulse points in the photos above.) These physical points ranged from my forehead down to my feet.

I couldn't relay the message of exactly what each point meant but you could tell my Stephanie's technique that this was very precise.

Once the needles were in place, she let me sit and rest for about 10 or 15 minutes with peaceful music. As I was laying there, I could feel goosebumps up and down my body. This almost felt as though my anxious thoughts and feelings were "lifting out of me". (Hopefully that doesn't sound too off the wall 🙈. It felt really cool.)

After she came back in and removed the needles, I felt as if I was in a much more relaxed state of mind. I loved it. Stephanie mentioned to me as we were wrapping things up that I could continue to feel the effects of this treatment for 3-5 days following that day. Isn't that crazy!? 😍

One thing I did notice in the following days was that my general anxiety had subsided quite a bit. I wasn't in need of my normal routine to subdue that. Now that in itself is worth it in my opinion. I'm all about natural when possible!

All of this to say that if you have yet to experience acupuncture (no matter if you are in need or just looking to experience something new) I would absolutely recommend it. And I would 120% recommend paying a visit to the beautiful Stephanie if you are ever in the Michigan City area! She is quite the treat. Me and my family thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her.
